Wanderung 21

Lands Ho! Scotland, England, Shetland, Iceland, Newfoundland

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009: At Sea on our way to Iceland

It was an "at sea" day, so in the morning we walked on deck to get some exercise. The weather was overcast and even raining a little, but as result we got to enjoy a beautiful, vivid rainbow.

After a nice lunch, we attended the information session on Iceland at 2:00 p.m. We learned about Iceland's push for energy independence using geothermal and hydroelectric power as well as the deep economic problems caused by the banking failures of 2008. Afterwards Monika attended an art auction while I took a nap.

Since this was a "formal" night, we all dressed up and met for dinner in the Tsar dining room. I even wore my Wallace Tartan tie; it is a vivid red check pattern that contrasts well with black formal wear. At the end of the meal Monika decided to have the cheese plate rather than one of the sweet, sugary deserts that are so beloved by my sisters and of course everyone laughed about it. But when it arrived it turned out to be a good selection of cheeses and crackers, and it even came with grapes! So there!
