Bike Trip Day 2 (Saturday May 16th, 2015): A short hop North to Goemnitz, Germany

(Monika) Yesterday we were getting antsy about finding a room tonight, and rightfully so. At Dahme our original destination, everything reasonably priced was sold. I finally found a place close to Neustadt, actually it was west of Neustadt, but at this point, I wasn't choosey anymore and it had really good ratings. But it meant we only went about 15km.

We had a last breakfast, packed, put things into the basement for Detlef to take care of, and were off by about 10.

We first stopped at Aldi for some necessary food. The weather was grey and very windy but it did not rain and our ebikes could handle the wind.

Our next stop was at a sheltered bench overlooking the countyside in the direction of Neustadt. There we sheltered from the intermittent cold rain and ate the sandwiches we had bought at Aldi. After a relaxed meal we forged on, stopping at a place where we saw a bunch of other bicycles had stopped. It turned out to be a trailhead for path to the Goemnitzer tower, which was on top of the second highest hill in Holstein! ....note we are not exactly in the Rockies, so the hill was only a couple hundred feet up, if that. But we had nice views to all sides.

A little further on was our destination, Das Abendrote Haus (The Evening-red House). It was a nice looking large farmhouse; we were out in the country and even heard a rooster. Since the day's ride was quite short, we were very early, barely 12, but the hostess let us into our apartment, which consisted of a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bath. We rested in the living room while she made the beds and got things ready. We were just glad to be out of the weather, and especially the cold rain.
